Dementia Care

Dementia care is provided in three of our Homes, Olivet in Acocks Green and Peacehaven in Leamington Spa and Garswood in Southport.  CCH strongly believes in the importance of person-centred care and this is reflected in all our Homes.  Person-centred care aims to see the person with dementia as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness and on abilities they may have lost.  Instead of treating the person as a collection of symptoms and behaviours to be controlled, person-centred care takes into account each individual's unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.  We try to bring out the best in the people with dementia who live in our Homes.  Each person with dementia living in a CCH Care Home has his or her own individual care plan.  The care plan summarises how staff can encourage and maintain the unique strengths of the person while meeting his or her needs for support.  This plan is reviewed at frequent intervals.

Staff at all levels receive training in how to care for people with dementia.  This enables them to understand the difficulties in communication that people face and help people with dementia express their wishes and needs.  Personal privacy and dignity are respected at all times.  Individual cultural or religious beliefs are also taken into account.

Our Homes offer a wide range of carefully considered activities.  The environment of the Home is comfortable and homely.   Spaces are laid out to minimise any of the confusion or distress that people with dementia may sometimes feel.
